CSEET Logical Reasoning: Mastering Assertion and Reason Questions

CSEET Logical Reasoning: Mastering Assertion and Reason Questions

Assertion and Reason questions test your analytical thinking — not just what you know, but how well you connect ideas logically.

You’ll be given two statements — an Assertion (A) and a Reason (R) — and asked to determine the correct relationship between them.

How to Answer Assertion–Reason Questions?

Choose the correct option:

1. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.

2. Both A and R are true, but R is NOT the correct explanation of A.

3. A is true, but R is false.

4. A is false, but R is true.

CSEET – Assertion and Reason: 15 MCQs with Answers & Explanations

Q1.Assertion (A): All squares are rectangles.

Reason (R): A rectangle has all angles equal to 90°.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R correctly explains A.

Explanation:

A square satisfies the definition of a rectangle (all angles are 90°). Hence, R explains A.

Q2.Assertion (A): Every manager is a leader.

Reason (R): All leaders are managers.

Answer: Option 3 – A is true, but R is false.

Explanation:

Every manager performs leadership functions, but not all leaders are managers.

Q3.Assertion (A): Water boils at 100°C at normal pressure.

Reason (R): Boiling point of water changes with altitude.

Answer: Option 2 – Both A and R are true, but R does not explain A.

Explanation:

A is a fact; R gives another fact but doesn’t explain why it boils at 100°C.

Q4.Assertion (A): The sum of the angles in a triangle is 180°.

Reason (R): The sum of angles on a straight line is 180°.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

When a triangle’s one side is extended, the exterior and interior angles form a linear pair (180°).

Q5.Assertion (A): Communication is a two-way process.

Reason (R): Feedback is essential in communication.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

Feedback makes communication interactive — thus, two-way.

Q6.Assertion (A): Supply curve generally slopes upward.

Reason (R): Producers offer more at higher prices.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

Price increase motivates suppliers to produce more, causing an upward slope.

Q7.Assertion (A): The Constitution of India is federal in nature.

Reason (R): It contains division of powers between Centre and States.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

Division of powers is a key feature of federalism.

Q8.Assertion (A): Inflation reduces the value of money.

Reason (R): During inflation, prices of goods and services rise.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

When prices rise, purchasing power of money falls — hence inflation reduces value of money.

Q9.Assertion (A): A private company cannot invite public to subscribe for shares.

Reason (R): It restricts the right to transfer its shares.

Answer: Option 2 – Both A and R are true, but R does not explain A.

Explanation:

Both statements are true features of a private company but not cause–effect related.

Q10.Assertion (A): Listening is a passive process.

Reason (R): It involves only hearing sounds.

Answer: Option 3 – A is false, but R is true.

Explanation:

Listening is active, involving understanding; hearing alone is passive.

Q11.Assertion (A): All legal rules are moral rules.

Reason (R): Law is based on morality.

Answer: Option 3 – A is false, but R is true.

Explanation:

Some laws are moral in origin, but not all moral rules are laws.

Q12.Assertion (A): In communication, body language is part of non-verbal communication.

Reason (R): Non-verbal communication involves words and sounds.

Answer: Option 3 – A is true, but R is false.

Explanation:

Non-verbal communication excludes words and sounds — it involves gestures, expressions, posture, etc.

Q13.Assertion (A): In logical reasoning, assumptions are always false.

Reason (R): An assumption is something accepted as true for the purpose of argument.

Answer: Option 4 – A is false, but R is true.

Explanation:

Assumptions are considered true temporarily — not necessarily false.

Q14.Assertion (A): Demand curve generally slopes downward.

Reason (R): When price decreases, consumers buy more.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

This is the law of demand — inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded.

Q15.Assertion (A): Written communication is more reliable than oral communication.

Reason (R): Written messages serve as permanent records.

Answer: Option 1 – Both A and R are true, and R explains A.

Explanation:

Written communication provides documentation, hence more reliable.

Option Meaning

1 Both A and R true; R explains A

2 Both A and R true; R doesn’t explain A

3 A true, R false

4 A false, R true

Conclusion

Assertion and Reason questions test your depth of understanding, not just facts.

To master them for CSEET:

Identify the relationship between the two statements.

Don’t jump to conclusions — check if R actually explains A.

Practice regularly to build logical clarity.
